Environmental policy

The environment is important to Dear Sam. All our posters are printed on paper bearing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) environmental label for responsible forestry and the EU Ecolabel. Our printing facilities are 100% climate-neutral and all production of posters for dearsam.com bears the Svanen environmental label (similar to EU Ecolabel). All our unique packaging is FSC MIX certified and may only contain a mixture of recycled materials and/or materials from controlled sources (Controlled Wood). Source: https://ic.fsc.org/en

FSC for responsible forestry

Forestry certification according to the FSC means that the forestry land is managed according to the FSC's principles and criteria as set out in the FSC's forestry standard. FSC certified forestry takes account of environmental values and social considerations. Biodiversity, ecologically valuable environments and ancient monuments are protected. Employees in forestry must be offered secure working conditions in accordance with agreements. A expert team with an assignment from the FSC takes social, economic and environmental considerations into account.

FSC MIX

Under FSC's standard for Controlled Wood, manufacturers may mix FSC-certified material with uncertified material under controlled conditions. These products are labelled FSC Mix. The MIX label is also used on products containing mixtures of recycled materials. The FSC standard for Controlled Wood is a supplement to the FSC traceability standard. The traceability standard contains strict rules on how and to what extent mixing may take place. One requirement specifies that the certified material must come from controlled and acceptable sources. The Standard for Controlled Wood is used to show that.

Wood that is not accepted in FSC labelled products (unacceptable origin):

  • Illegally harvested wood
  • Wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights
  • Wood harvested in forests in which high conservation values are threatened by management activities
  • Wood harvested in forests being converted from natural and semi natural forest to plantations or non-forest use
  • Wood from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted

EU Ecolabel – the EU's official environmental label

The EU Ecolabel is a Type 1 environmental label. Products that may use the EU Ecolabel are inspected from a life-cycle perspective from raw material to waste. The products must meet stringent environmental, functional and quality requirements. The level of requirements is continually being raised.
